Adoption Plan with OHAC- Gorilla Health
Only 1,063 mountain gorillas are left in the wild including the 604 Virunga ’mountain gorilla.
Following the OHAC- Gorilla Health findings, disease poses serious threats to mountain gorillas. They are highly susceptible to human diseases especially the respiratory illnesses reported years ago. Gorilla (Non – Human Primates) share around 98% of our DNA with human (Human Primates). This means that exposure to human illnesses can have potentially detrimental impacts on our mountain gorillas as they are so genetically similar to us, knowing that they haven’t developed the necessary immunities.
The adoption plan with OHAC- Gorilla Health will help protect and ensure the long-term survival of the famous endangered mountain gorillas and the critically endangered lowland gorilla. By supporting an animal adoption, you are involved in protecting your chosen gorilla but also the conservation in the gorilla habitat.
We will issue a digital certificate for each adoption of a mountain or lowland gorilla
Thank you for your support!
In addition to monitoring mountain gorillas, we actively assist local communities in adopting sustainable practices to preserve the integrity of gorilla habitat. Moreover, we endeavor to minimize human encroachment into gorilla territory, thereby alleviating pressure on the forests and mitigating the risk of disease transmission from humans to gorillas.
Furthermore, we advocate for ecotourism initiatives, showcasing the mutual benefits of coexisting with gorillas while implementing stringent health and sanitation measures to safeguard against disease transmission. Through these efforts, we aim to foster a harmonious relationship between humans and mountain gorillas, ensuring their long-term conservation and well-being.
