Equipping health Centers with iPads for Early Public Health Reporting – EBS Cascade trainings
One Health in Action
The One Health Approach for Conservation (OHAC) – Gorilla Health played a crucial role in shaping Rwanda’s One Health Strategic Plan, alongside its institutional and technical frameworks. Additionally, it identified key areas and strategies for fostering long-term collaboration in disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and response efforts.
Addressing the 7-1-7 Approach in Africa’s Public Health Landscape

In line with global health standards, we adopted the 7-1-7 approach, a critical framework for the rapid response to infectious disease outbreaks. This approach focuses on the crucial 7-day timeline: detecting an outbreak within the first 24 hours or in less than 7 days, reporting it within 1 day, and initiating an intervention within 7 days.
In Africa, where many nations face complex health challenges such a weak health systems, the 7-1-7 approach has proven vital in mitigating the impact of diseases.
The 7-1-7 approach in Rwanda was pivotal in managing the 2024 Marburg virus outbreak, contributing to a relatively low case fatality rate (CFR) of 22.7%, compared to the global average of around 80%. Timely detection, reporting, and rapid response were key to preventing a larger public health crisis and highlight the critical importance of coordinated efforts in controlling disease spread
Beyond specific outbreaks, the 7-1-7 approach is becoming a cornerstone in Africa’s public health strategy, guiding countries toward strengthening surveillance systems, improving the speed and accuracy of outbreak response, and fostering cross-border collaboration.
By adopting this model, African nations can more effectively navigate the complex challenges posed by emerging diseases, ensuring that public health threats are addressed before they escalate into full-scale crises.

“I continue my journey by training current and future health professionals in Rwanda through the on the One Health approach—building readiness for outbreak investigation in communities, and delivering effective training to hospital staff and help manage, prevent and contain any public health threats.”
We extend our sincere gratitude to the WHO and the Nyabikenke DH for supporting the EBS ToT training through the One Health Approach, which promotes integrated surveillance across human, animal, and environmental health, in alignment with OHAC–GH recommendations. https://lnkd.in/dDYA4FPU
We extend our heartfelt thanks to UNICEF for their generous support in equipping health personnel with iPads, empowering them to enhance early public health reporting. This initiative plays a crucial role in strengthening Rwanda’s health systems.
